A highly collectible piece of WWI trench art, created from a brass artillery shell casing manufactured by Berndorf and dated 1917.
The casing has been converted into a hand-cranked grinder, complete with metal crank handle and internal mechanism. The grinder remains functional when operated and presents as both a usable and display item.
The base is stamped ‘Berndorf’, along with the date ‘1917’ and additional numeric marking ‘533’, consistent with wartime production markings.
Berndorf was a well-known Austrian manufacturer of metal goods, and their shell casings are commonly encountered in WWI-era military artefacts.
The brass body shows a rich aged patina, with wear and oxidation consistent with age and use. The trench art conversion adds unique character, making this a one-of-a-kind piece.
An excellent item for collectors of military memorabilia, trench art, or industrial antiques.
Condition reflects age and use, with patina, marks, and wear as shown. Sold as found.
