Original Pinnacle No. 5 carbide miner’s lamp, believed to date from approximately 1920. Constructed from cast aluminium and fitted with a front reflector, wire bail handle and hanging hook, this lamp represents an important piece of early mining and industrial history.
Carbide lamps were widely used throughout Australian mining operations, railways, tunnelling projects and industrial workplaces before the introduction of electric battery lighting. The lamps generated acetylene gas from the reaction of calcium carbide and water, producing a bright and reliable flame for underground work.
The Pinnacle brand is recognised among collectors of mining memorabilia, and surviving examples are increasingly sought after for display, restoration and historical collections.
