Original 1986 release of ‘Stars and Hank Forever!’ by avant-garde experimental music collective The Residents. Issued as Volume 2 of The American Composer Series, this unique recording presents The Residents’ unconventional interpretations of compositions by country music legend Hank Williams and march composer John Philip Sousa.
The album combines five Hank Williams songs including Hey Good Lookin’, Six More Miles, Kaw-Liga, Ramblin’ Man and Jambalaya with inventive reworkings of classic Sousa marches including The Stars and Stripes Forever, El Capitan, The Liberty Bell, Semper Fidelis and The Washington Post.
Known for their anonymous identities, eyeball masks and highly experimental recordings, The Residents have developed a significant cult following and are regarded as one of the most influential avant-garde groups of the late twentieth century.
