The badge carries the battalion motto ‘Strike Hard’ on the lower scroll and the number ‘57’ beneath the central device.
The 57th Battalion was raised in Victoria in 1916 as part of the expansion of the Australian Imperial Force during the First World War. The battalion served on the Western Front in France and Belgium and formed part of the 15th Brigade of the 5th Australian Division.
Constructed in darkened brass / bronze with pin fitting to the reverse. The badge shows age and patina consistent with historic military insignia and remains a desirable collectible piece of Australian WWI militaria.
