LOT064 Black & White Scotch Whisky New Zealand Centennial Exhibition Ashtray 1840–1940

Vintage ceramic advertising ashtray produced to commemorate the New Zealand Centennial Exhibition 1840–1940. The square white glazed ashtray features an illustration of the exhibition building to the centre and is decorated with Black & White Scotch Whisky branding around the rim, including the slogan ‘Black & White Scotch Whisky’. Designed with four cigarette rests, this piece represents a classic example of whisky advertising memorabilia and exhibition souvenir ware from the early twentieth century. The New Zealand Centennial Exhibition was a significant national event celebrating one hundred years of organised European settlement in New Zealand, making this an interesting crossover collectable appealing to whisky enthusiasts, advertising collectors, tobacciana collectors and New Zealand historical memorabilia collectors.
