The drum displays a dark, aged finish with signs of use and handling consistent with age. The top appears to be fitted with natural animal skin, possibly reptile (such as goanna or similar), secured with woven binding around the rim.

The form and construction are consistent with handheld ceremonial or musical drums commonly used in PNG regions.
